Two new Fish Farms for our Children Homes.

To lower the expense caused through constantly increasing food prices we have started in Thailand and Burma to build up two fish farms to self-supply our children with fish. In addition the fish farms are serving our teenagers as an education for ecological fish breeding.

At each fish farm we are going to breed 10.000 fish. With that we can cover the whole need for our children homes and we can even give fish to poor families in the surrounding areas. It is expected that we can operate both facilities in the following month. After that we will need 6-9 month to breed the stock.

A special thanks goes to the company Omikron which financed the fish farm in our center in Thailand.

We also want to give our thanks to “Children for a better world e.V.” for the financial support for our fish farm in Burma.

Hygiene and First Aid Training /
Medical examination of the children

In February this year we had Doctor Lim as a speaker for a visit at our Hope for Life-Foundation in Mae Sai. Dr. Lim was working many years in the jungle in the border areas of Thailand/Burma and therefore knows the local circumstances very well. That is why we where especially happy to win him as a speaker for a hygiene and first aid training in our center. Dr. Lim taught 20 participants (all workers from our children help projects in Thailand and Burma) in his practice lessons. Dr. Lim completed his lessons through many practical exercises and impressive reports from his own experience.

After the lessons were over Dr. Lim examined all of our children. Thanks to his work we can go well prepared into the coming rain (and therefore infection) season…

The further development of our center in Mae Sai

…it is not easy to turn a previous rice field into a children’s help project and therefore we are still busy; after a year the construction got finished, to make the project area prettier and more cozy. We especially need some shadow areas for the high noon heat. So we have planted countless new trees to make it in the future easier for our kids to find a nice and shady place outside. The trees are mainly fruit trees, this way not only the body’s circulation takes profit from the new trees also the stomach does

We have also build up a small building. A storeroom offers now enough space to stow away all of our appliances, provisions and materials.

Our activity hall was to small and had to be extended. Thanks to the extension there can be over 100 kids inside the hall.

An additional building which is going to be staff quarters for our local teachers is still under construction but will be soon ready for moving.

Youths got educated at the Heidelberger Printing Machine.

Through the generous support from the Heidelberger Printing Machines this class was possible to be carried out on a modern QM-42/2 from the Company HEIDELBERG. This class was lead through by senior expert Mr. Gauert, which taught the teenagers with lot of enthusiasm and experience, the complicated matter. The class lasted 5 weeks and was separated in theoretical and practical lessons. The participants learned first some basic knowledge and also did on the job training and maintenance work on the machine. They also learned the development of printing plates with the most primitive means and the application of sunlight. The result was ,thanks to the great experience and the unconventional solution attempts from Mr. Gaugert, impressive. So changed a simple vacuum cleaner in connection with a transparent plastic sleeve to a vacuum chamber. An old table, a neon lamb and a sheet of glass changed into an exposure table. A big thank you to Mr. Gauert.

Computer and English-Trainings

In close cooperation with the german organization “senior-expert-service” we provided two computer-trainings for youth in the month January till March.

In a continuative course the knowledge of the intermediate attendees from the past training has been deepened and extended. The second course was for beginners. In total 12 youth attended the training. At the ending of the training Certificates were handed out to the students by our teacher Dr. Reihlen.

Also our friend Eberhard was teaching two english classes, one beginners and one intermedia group. After completion of the training some of the students of the intermedia group were already able to help as interpreters in our projects. This is a big success and we thank all our passed friends who volunteered as english teachers in the past years.
